Havana Cuba. November 17, 2008. The young teacher killed a Cuban who chairs smashed over the head to one of his students, was tried behind closed doors in a Havana court and could face a sentence of seven years, according to sources close to the case said.
The trial of Professor Joaquin Torres, 21, was held on 11 November at the Provincial Tribunal of Havana under heavy police deployment. Only a handful of families had access to the courtroom, occupied mostly by the military.
Torres was indicted for the murder of Daniel Castañeda Alayo, in the middle class.
Daniel, 12, a student at secondary school "Sarmiento'' located in the Havana neighborhood of Lawton. The incident occurred on Feb. 1 during an altercation in the classroom.

Santa Clara, Cuba. March 13, 2007. The common offender, Alexis Gomez Perez, died on March 28 last in the Ariza Prison, Cienfuegos province, negligence of the authorities. Alexis Gomez Perez was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for the crime of "theft and slaughter of livestock." Had a girl of seven years old.
